'A Collective Moment'

A Collective Moment

The experiences we have during our school lives help to create our identity. Such an environment gives us the scope to establish our skills and form the different aspects of our personality. Here, our interaction with others and the environment is vital to this development.

Another fundamental part of our development is daydreaming. Contrary to its negative associations, daydreaming can be a constructive pastime. It allows us to acknowledge potential and, in particular, be creative with the world around us. It gives us space within a hectic life to process our thoughts and fears, turning them into something positive and creating a highly imaginative world for ourselves. It can relieve stress, improve our attitude and refresh the mind and body. Whereas negative daydreams may at first appear to have the opposite effect, they are in fact a necessary process to ascertain appropriate ways to deal with our deepest fears and worries.

‘A Collective Moment’ reflects on those moments in our lives we take to let our mind wander from daily routine. It explores our interaction with the environment, each other and the everyday experiences that stimulate our fantasies and daydreams. This work aims to reveal something of a teenage boy’s collective psyche, as well as something of the individual identity of each person involved. Speaking of their dreams, hopes, fears, aspirations, thoughts and emotions about life, particularly within the world they inhabit.
